This paper investigates the historical, linguistic and ideological trajectories of vimāna across textual epochs and cultural contexts. It argues that vimānas were not just mechanical inventions within the epistemic parameters of pre-modern India but also functioned as theological and poetic mediators between the terrestrial and celestial realms. By juxtaposing philological analysis with perspectives from science studies and post-colonial theory, the study situates the modern fascination with ancient aviation within broader debates on the politics of knowledge, mythic imagination, and the construction national identity. Ultimately, this work demonstrates that the vimāna's enduring vitality lies not in its technological plausibility but in its capacity to express the human desire for transcendence-both spiritual and cultural.
